The Tawilis Festival was initially launched in 2009 as Agoncillo's entry to the Ala Eh Festival, a grand celebration of festivals across Batangas. Over the years, it has become a vital part of Agoncillo's cultural identity, evolving into a tribute to the rich harvests from Taal Lake.

The week-long celebration typically features a trade fair showcasing local products, alongside vibrant street and court dance competitions that draw tourists from Manila and nearby towns.

In 2020, efforts were made to revive the festival celebrating tawilis—Agoncillo’s signature product. However, the eruption of Taal Volcano and the onset of the pandemic halted these plans.
