Agoncillo
The town of Agoncillo, originally part of Lemery, Batangas,
became a separate municipality through the efforts of Hon. Jacinto M. Mendoza
and his colleagues, addressing local infrastructure challenges. In 1948,
President Elpidio Quirino issued an executive order to establish the
Municipality of Pansipit, which was later suspended due to opposition. However,
a plebiscite on August 22, 1948, formalized its creation, and the town was
renamed Agoncillo on April 7, 1949, in honor of Don Felipe Agoncillo, a notable
diplomat. Initially comprising 11 barangays, Agoncillo has since expanded to
21, reflecting its continued growth. The town’s history showcases its
resilience and the strong sense of community that shaped its development.
